Understanding different approaches to psychotherapy

Psychotherapy involves a great number of approaches, and the use of a particular method is up to the discretion of the psychotherapist. The approach used to treat a particular ailment can be decided by the psychotherapist, based on their training, personality or style of treatment. Many psychotherapists use their knowledge and experience to treat different types of patients. Some of them use the same approach with all their patients, while the others customize their approach according to the needs, personality and symptoms of the patients. Though many approaches are distinct in their own way, their implementation methods may sometimes overlap. Therapists do not rigidly adhere to a single way of thinking, as limiting the therapy approach can miss the overall picture.
